British Folk Guitarist Davy Graham Dies In His London Home

London, England (CNS) - Davy Graham, the British folk guitarist who greatly influenced Bert Jansch and Paul Simon died from lung cancer at the age of 68 in his London home. Graham died of a seizure on Monday. The musician had long suffered from lung cancer, his former manager Mark Pavey said Wednesday.

He inspired many of the famous practitioners of the fingerstyle acoustic guitar, such as Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Martin Carthy, Paul Simon, Eltjo Haselhoff and even Jimmy Page, who heavily based his solo "White Summer" on Graham's "She moved thru' the Bizarre/Blue Raga".

Graham is probably best-known for his acoustic instrumental, "Anji." Even though the song "Anji" became known to a generation of aspiring guitarists, Pavey said Graham had difficulty translating his following into a fan base.

Graham is survived by his two daughters, Mercy and Kim. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced but a public ceremony is planned for January.
